CLIPPERS BASEBALL CLUB MEETING

Tuesday, April 23, 2019

Opening:

Clippers Baseball Club meeting was held on Tuesday, April 23, 2019 at Tiffin City Hall in Tiffin, IA at 8:00pm.

Club Members Present: Adam Henderson (President), Wade Good (Vice President), Golda Monohon (Secretary), Adam Zupancic (Director of Operations), Seth Ickowitz (Treasurer), Nick Pfeiffer (Alternate), Darci Roehler (Trustee)

Others Present: Bryan Monohon (13U Assistant Coach)

Clipper Classic:

There will be no 7U bracket for the tournament this year. No teams other than the 7U Clippers were signed up for this age bracket. Adam Henderson made a deal with the PST tournament director so that the 7U Clippers could play in a tournament the same weekend. 12U Blue will also play in the PST tournament since they are AAA.

Adam Henderson changed the field assignment for a couple age brackets:

13U: Pancheros (North Liberty) and Field 3 (Tiffin)

12U: Scheels (North Liberty) and Field 4 (Tiffin)

10U AAA: Optimist and Koser (North Liberty)

9U: Rage Grafix (North Liberty) and Field 2 (Tiffin)

All Clippers teams will play in North Liberty except for 14U and 9U White who will be in Tiffin.  Darci will be at the registration desk in Tiffin. Golda will be at the registration desk in North Liberty.  There are 64 teams registered for the tournament this year. Last year there were 46. The game schedule will be set either Monday or Tuesday the week of the tournament.

Pitching mounds will be delivered Friday night, May 3rd to Penn Meadows. There should be 9 mounds total. Trevor Johnson will be donating a golf cart to use during the tournament to transport equipment such as the mounds.

Game Times have been roughly set up for the following times:

Saturday: 8am, 9:45am, 11:30am, 1:15pm, and 3pm (finishing around 4:30pm)

Sunday: 9am, 10:45am, 12:30pm, and 2:15pm (finishing around 3:45pm)

Darci will set up Signup Genius for field maintenance. Volunteers should arrive at 6:30am on Saturday to set pitching mounds and chalk the fields. Typically, one person per field is needed, so 8-9 people are needed per shift. 8U, 9U Blue, 11U, 12U White, and 13U will be present at Penn Meadows to assist with field maintenance.

Saturday Field Maintenance Schedule:

6:30am – set mounds and chalk

9:30am – chalk

11:15am – chalk

1pm – chalk

2:45pm – chalk

Brian Motley sent Adam Henderson a press release to be given to every coach prior to the tournament regarding the road construction around Penn Meadows. Parents will need to allot extra time to reach the baseball fields.

Concession stand:

Wade, Seth, and Adam Henderson will make the trip to Costco on Friday to purchase concession stand items.

Golda will contact Darlene Smith to confirm plans with the Optimist Club for manning the concession stand at Penn Meadows. Adam would like to start with $2000 in the till so that we do not have to make multiple trips to the bank during the tournament to get ones and quarters. Furthermore, we would like to price concession stand items at whole dollar amounts so that the Optimist Club doesn’t have to handle change. We need to purchase coffee stirrers/spoons for the coffee, sunflower seeds, ketchup, mustard, and relish. We don’t want to rely on Hy-Vee to provide condiments. In addition, Costco never carries sunflower seeds so we need to purchase those elsewhere. Adam Zupancic stated that he would check on prices and flavors available through Scheels. No donuts will be purchased this year. Last year we couldn’t give them away.

The concession stand should be open in Tiffin for the tournament, but Adam Henderson will check with Jonas Zimmerman.

Membership Dues:

All dues have been paid EXCEPT 4 players from the 11U team (Travis Weber) and 2 players from the 12U White team (Trevor Johnson). Kelly Weber did state that she had the dues for those 4 players, but just hasn’t had a chance to turn them in yet to the board.

Fan Apparel:

Adam Zupancic has the second order of fan gear coming and it should be delivered before the tournament. The apparel is scheduled to be delivered to Adam this week.

Uniforms:

Niki Frese reported that only one complaint has been reported so far regarding the new uniforms. Tyler Patrick’s hat does not fit well (11U). It has been noticed though that the uniforms easily snag, especially on the catcher’s gear. The uniforms may not hold up for two years.

Clippers Baseball Club Scholarship:

The board reviewed the scholarship applicants and voted for Quentin Gisleson (CCA High School Senior) to receive the $500 scholarship for 2019 from the club.

Coach Henry:

Coach Henry reached out to the board to see if we would purchase a pitching machine for the white building since the current one is not working. It would be ~$5000 to purchase a pitching machine. Adam Henderson told Coach Henry no. The CCA Boosters had a pitching machine in their budget to purchase, but Coach Henry will not reach out to the Boosters.
