CLIPPERS BASEBALL CLUB MEETING

Opening: Clippers Baseball Club meeting was held Monday, November 11, 2019 at Tiffin City Hall in Tiffin, IA at 6:00pm.

Board Members Present: Nick Pfeiffer (President), Jeremiah Herdliska (Vice President), Kelly Weber (Treasurer), Matt Carlson (Secretary), Nick Berning, Bridgette Schares, Ethan Smith, April Schmitz, Jamie Etscheidt

Others Present: Golda Mohonan (former Secretary), Brandon Schrock, Trent DeKoter, Lee Turney

  1. Open Discussion from Membership:
    • No update.
  2. Update on Outstanding Action Items:
    • Nick Pfeiffer will discuss debt forgiveness/repayment options with Jonas Zimmerman (Tiffin Parks & Rec) – IN PROGRESS
      • Nick Pfeiffer has attempted to contact Jonas Zimmerman twice and has not received a response.
    • Bridgette Schares will confirm the availability of field use for two weekends as a gift to the club with Brian Motley (North Liberty Parks & Rec) – IN PROGRESS
      • There was a discussion that the Clippers Baseball Club may want to schedule another tournament besides the Clipper Classic.
    • Ethan Smith will reach out to Bryant’s to check interest to host fundraiser – IN PROGRESS
      • Ethan Smith has attempted to contact the owner of Bryant’s multiple times and has been unable to get into contact with him.
    • Bridgette Schares will reach out to the North Liberty Jimmy Jack’s to check interest to host fundraiser – COMPLETE
      • Ideally the club would do one fundraiser in early December 2019 (Mosley’s?) and one in January 2020 (Jimmy Jack’s).
      • The Jimmy Jack’s Fundraiser is set for Wednesday, January 8th from 4-8pm. The Clippers Baseball Club will get 10% of proceeds. Fliers to come.
    • April Schmitz will reach out to the North Liberty Mosley’s to check interest to host fundraiser – IN PROGRESS
      • The group discussed hosting a trivia night at Mosley’s. This would entail charging an entry fee, and marketing to club families and the public.
      • Ideally the club would do one fundraiser in early December 2019 and one in January 2020.
    • Nick Berning will check with the University of Iowa Athletic Department about acquiring the Kinnick Stadium seatback installation contract – IN PROGRESS
      • Nick Berning has attempted to contact the University of Iowa Athletic Department regarding the seatback contract and has not received a response.
      • There may be a fundraising opportunity for Kinnick stadium cleanup. This may require all club teams and families to participate in clean-up activities following every Iowa home football game. Nick will send out additional information to the group on this. Further discussion needed.
    • April Schmitz will contact Naomi’s Kitchen to get additional information about fundraising opportunities. Fundraising targeted for February/March 2020 – IN PROGRESS
      • The club is considering February/March 2020 timeframe.
    • Nick Pfeiffer will email Clippers Baseball Club coaches USSSA registration instructions and timelines – COMPLETE
      • Nick provided coaches instructions for 2020 Clippers Baseball Club – handed out during 11/11/19 meeting.
    • Kelly Weber will schedule two nights in January with Ironside Apparel to get team uniform measurements – IN PROGRESS
      • Kelly scheduled two nights for uniform measurements, on Monday, January 20, 2020 and Tuesday, January 21, 2020. Golda Mohonan or Kelly Weber will contact Tiffin City Hall to verify space availability for uniform measurements.
      • We may include Clippers Softball Club measurements the same night.

    • Regional Sports Authority District Grant (Nick Pfeiffer)
      • The club will need to submit paperwork when complete and will get $1,500 back.

    • ACTION ITEM: Bridgette Schares will contact Texas Roadhouse to check interest to host fundraiser. Targeted for February 2020.
    • ACTION ITEM: Kelly Weber will contact Old Roy’s to check interest to host fundraiser.
    • ACTION ITEM: April Schmitz will contact Mellow Mushroom to check interest to host fundraiser.
    • ACTION ITEM: Ethan Smith will contact Don Hummer Trucking to check interest to host fundraiser.
      • It may be best to go there in person to discuss fundraising opportunities.
    • It was discussed that Panchero’s offers a deal where they make discounted burritos the club can buy for $2-3 and sell at the Clipper Classic for $5.
  7. Update on Pending Legal Details:
    • The former club president was arrested. He appeared and was released. No court date has been scheduled yet.
    • The former club president’s attorney filed a motion for prepayment of restitution. This means the defendant may begin to pay restitution before the judge enters a sentence. The order shows that the former club president is going to start paying something.
    • 5 years is the maximum time he could be put on probation.
  8. Debts to be Paid from Fundraisers:
    • Nick Pfeiffer has not heard back from Danny Kern regarding a reduced debt discussed.
    • ACTION ITEM: Nick Pfeiffer will contact Bob Eggert (Iowa USSSA) to discuss debts.
    • Nick Pfeiffer reached out to the North Liberty City Administrator and they are unable to forgive the debt entirely. However, they may be willing to allow additional time for the repayment of the debt if necessary.
  9. Clipper Classic:
    • It was discussed that it may be more cost effective for the Clipper Classic to be a one-day tournament instead of two days.
    • The club is considering inviting 6 teams per age group and charging $250 maximum for two-games guaranteed.
    • DECISION: The Clippers Club Board voted in favor of making the Clipper Classic a one-day USSSA sanctioned tournament.
    • The board discussed inviting Brett Breard (Director of Umpires) to our next club meeting 12/9/19 to discuss paying umpires less per game. There would be two umpires on the field ($50 paid to each umpire and an additional cost for onsite Umpire Director).
    • North Liberty Coralville Baseball & Softball (NLCBS) offered to run the concession stand instead of the Optimist Club. Further discussion needed.
  10. Treasurer’s Report:
    • 10/31 Club Bank Account Balance: $11,734.07.

          • 1 outstanding unpaid player.

          • 1 outstanding unpaid player (unsure if the player is returning to team next season).

          • 4 outstanding unpaid players (Trevor Bollers may have information).

  11. Clippers Baseball Club Apparel Webstore:
    • All items will be complete on approximately 12/18/19. You will get an email when your order is ready. Customers can select to pick up from the group coordinator, pick up at Ironside Apparel or ship via UPS.
  12. Open Discussion:
    • The club may need to have a coach’s meeting in late November 2019. Insurance dues need to be paid before practice space can be reserved.
    • The Board will discuss updates to the Sponsorship Form at the 12/9/19 club meeting. It may make sense to roll the coach’s meeting in with the monthly board meeting.
  13. Decisions:
    • DECISION (10/14): The CCASD, insurance dues, and mound rental fees are the top debt priorities: $500 owed to CCASD, $793.10 owed for insurance dues, and $500 owed for mound rental fees.
    • DECISION (10/14): There is $479 left after CCASD, insurance dues, and mound rental fees are paid.Of the remaining funds raised $100 will go to Tiffin Parks & Rec, and $350 will go to North Liberty Parks & Rec.
    • DECISION (11/11): The Clippers Club Board voted in favor of making the Clipper Classic a one-day USSSA sanctioned tournament.
