CLIPPERS BASEBALL CLUB BOARD MEETING

Opening: Clippers Baseball Club Board Meeting was held Monday, February 10, 2020 at Tiffin City Hall in Tiffin, IA at 6:08pm.

Board Members Present: Nick Pfeiffer (President), Kelly Weber (Treasurer), Matt Carlson (Secretary), Sarah Seidl, Nick Berning, April Schmitz

  1. Open Discussion from Membership:
    • No updates.
  2. Clippers Baseball Club Tax Filing:
    • Taxes have been filed for 2017 and 2018.
    • Reggie Meade will file an extension for 2019 tax filing and complete the club’s 2019 taxes in August 2020.
    • The Club will change their accounting period to align with the baseball season.
  3. Update on Outstanding Action Items:
    • Bridgette Schares will confirm the availability of field use for one weekend as a gift to the club with Brian Motley (North Liberty Parks & Rec) – COMPLETE
      • Field availability is confirmed for 6/6/20.
      • No teams are interested in creating a tournament this weekend.
    • April Schmitz will contact Naomi’s Kitchen to get additional information about fundraising opportunities. Fundraising targeted for March 2020 – IN PROGRESS
      • April sent Naomi’s Partners with Clippers Baseball fundraiser flyer:
        • Order a Clipper Baseball Fundraiser Pick-Up Online March 26th via the Calendar page at www.naomiskitchen.com.
        • Deliver a CHECK when you pick up at Naomi’s.

  4. Sponsorship:
    • New Silver Sponsorship packages ($150) were awarded to 4 local businesses:
      • Croco Orthodontics
      • Hart Family Dentistry
      • HJR Financial Group
      • Solon State Bank
    • Kelly Weber is working with Niki Frese at Ironside Apparel on a design for sponsorship decals. Decals are sent to sponsors as a thank you for their support.
    • Nick Pfeiffer sent a solicitation letter to 60 local businesses regarding sponsorship opportunities with the Clippers Baseball Club, here’s the list of businesses:https://drive.google.com/open?id=1PriaHfAdM2fTYUpIKn0GhZzsHEEF1pPy
  5. Fundraising:
    • $720.15 raised from fundraisers/sponsorships – 75% of Ironside Apparel and $300 in sponsorships (HJR Financial Group and Solon State Bank) will be allocated to the 2020 season.
    • $899.23 raised from fundraisers/sponsorships – Jimmy Jack’s, Mosley’s, 25% of Ironside Apparel, and $300 in sponsorships (Croco Orthodontics and Hart Family Dentistry) will be allocated to debt repayment.
      • DECISION: $899.23 has been raised to repay debts. The Club will pay $450 to the City of North Liberty, and $450 to the City of Tiffin.
    • Breakdown of Fundraisers:
      • Jimmy Jack’s fundraiser raised $200.35
      • Mosley’s fundraiser raised $258.83
      • Ironside fundraiser raised $560.20 (25% = $140.05, 75% = $420.15)
      • Puravida bracelets fundraiser is expected to raise ~ $600. Almost all bracelets have been sold. Kelly Weber will send a message regarding the deadline to turn in money from all bracelet sales.
      • Tap N’ Tacos Fundraiser (Brunch for Baseball)
        • Waiting on results from fundraiser.
      • Panchero’s Fundraiser:
        • ACTION ITEM: Nick Pfeiffer will reach out to the Coralville Panchero’s about scheduling a fundraiser again in April 2020. Panchero’s allows organizations to do a fundraiser every 6 months.
        • Nick Pfeiffer is gathering information on offering discounted burritos the Club can buy for $2-3 and sell for $5 at the Clipper Classic.

  6. Team Photos:
    • Nick Pfeiffer reached out to Katie to discuss scheduling team photos. We are looking at dates in the late March/early April timeframe.
    • The Club will set the date and teams will be responsible for paying for their own team banners that generally run about $100-125 each.
  7. Update on Pending Legal Details:
    • No new updates.
  8. Clipper Classic:
    • The Clipper Classic Tournament is live on the USSSA website. All Clippers Baseball Club teams have been signed up.
  9. Clipper Club 2021 Tryouts:
    • Nick Pfeiffer will send an email to the coaches regarding 2021 tryout dates for 7/15 or 7/18 and 7/29 or 8/1.
    • The Iowa USSSA All State Showcase is scheduled for 7/25, so this is a weekend the club will want to avoid scheduling tryouts.

  12. Decisions:
    • DECISION (10/14/19): The CCASD, insurance dues, and mound rental fees are the top debt priorities: $500 owed to CCASD, $793.10 owed for insurance dues, and $500 owed for mound rental fees.
    • DECISION (10/14/19): There is $479 left after CCASD, insurance dues, and mound rental fees are paid.Of the remaining funds raised $100 will go to Tiffin Parks & Rec, and $350 will go to North Liberty Parks & Rec.
    • DECISION (11/11/19): The Clippers Club Board voted in favor of making the Clipper Classic a one-day USSSA sanctioned tournament.
    • DECISION (12/9/19): $621.72 has been raised to repay debts. The Club will pay $300 to the City of North Liberty, and $300 to the City of Tiffin.
