CLIPPERS BASEBALL CLUB BOARD MEETING

Opening: Clippers Baseball Club Board Meeting was held Monday, January 13, 2020 at Tiffin City Hall in Tiffin, IA at 6:04pm.

Board Members Present: Nick Pfeiffer (President), Jeremiah Herdliska (Vice President), Kelly Weber (Treasurer), Matt Carlson (Secretary), Sarah Seidl, Bridgette Schares, April Schmitz, Jamie Etscheidt

Others Present: Golda Mohonan, Angela Jurgens

  1. Open Discussion from Membership:
    • No updates.
  2. Clippers Baseball Club Tax Filing:
    • Taxes have been filed for 2017 and 2018 and Nick Pfeiffer will send the 2019 information for filing soon.
  3. Update on Outstanding Action Items:
    • Bridgette Schares will confirm the availability of field use for one weekend as a gift to the club with Brian Motley (North Liberty Parks & Rec) – COMPLETE
      • Field availability is confirmed for 6/6/20. The Clippers Baseball Club is discussing tournament options for this weekend.
      • NLYBS will operate the concession stand the weekend of 6/6/20. The Clippers Baseball Club would receive gate fees and is responsible for hiring umpires. There would likely be USSSA fees as well.
      • Nick Pfeiffer will send a message to coaches to gauge interest in organizing a tournament.
    • April Schmitz will contact Naomi’s Kitchen to get additional information about fundraising opportunities. Fundraising targeted for March 2020 – IN PROGRESS
      • The second week (3/9-3/13) or the third week (3/16-3/20) of the month is when pickup usually occurs.
    • Ethan Smith will contact Don Hummer Trucking to check interest to host fundraiser – IN PROGRESS
      • No updates.
  4. Sponsorship:
    • Nick Pfeiffer sent out the solicitation letter to approximately 60 local businesses regarding sponsorship opportunities.
    • Solon State Bank committed to a silver sponsorship package for $150.
  5. Fundraising:
    • Jimmy Jack’s fundraiser raised $200.35
    • Mosley’s fundraiser raised $258.83
    • Ironside fundraiser raised $560.20
    • Puravida bracelets fundraiser is expected to raise around $600. Almost all bracelets have been sold.
      • Kelly Weber will send a message regarding the deadline to turn in money.
    • Clippers Baseball Club Recovery Fund (GoFundMe Page)
    • Tap N’ Tacos fundraiser (Brunch for Baseball)
    • Scratch Cupcakery
      • They are booked through the summer of 2020 for fundraiser events. The club will revisit this fundraiser opportunity later this year.
  6. Club Debts:
    • Clipper Classic/Field Usage – checks sent for $650 to the city of North Liberty ($1,961 outstanding), and $530 to the city of Tiffin ($1,060 outstanding).
  7. Update on Pending Legal Details:
    • Pretrial conference scheduled for 2/7/20, updates are expected following this meeting.
  8. Clipper Classic:
    • Nick Pfeiffer is putting together a sub-committee to discuss tournament details.
      • The sub-committee will discuss a collaboration with Panchero’s to offer discounted burritos the club can buy for $2-3 and sell at the Clipper Classic for $5 to raise money. Nick Pfeiffer will reach out to Panchero’s regarding this opportunity.
    • Nick Pfeiffer will reach out to Alpha Graphics to price out pitching cards (what coaches turn in after games).
    • CCAYLL President Scott Webb has reached out to the Clippers Baseball Club about using their fields in Oxford to host tournaments.
  9. Treasurer’s Report:
    • 1/13/20 Clippers Baseball Club checking account balance: $8,626.47
    • Roster and Dues Update from 1/13/20:
      • Nick Pfeiffer will send an email reminder to folks who still need to pay. Families who have not paid first payment dues:
        • 8U Team (Nick Pfeiffer following up)
          • 1 outstanding unpaid player.
        • 9U Team (Nick Pfeiffer following up)
          • 1 outstanding unpaid player.
  10. Open Discussion:
    • No updates.
  11. Decisions:
    • DECISION (10/14/19): The CCASD, insurance dues, and mound rental fees are the top debt priorities: $500 owed to CCASD, $793.10 owed for insurance dues, and $500 owed for mound rental fees.
    • DECISION (10/14/19): There is $479 left after CCASD, insurance dues, and mound rental fees are paid.Of the remaining funds raised $100 will go to Tiffin Parks & Rec, and $350 will go to North Liberty Parks & Rec.
    • DECISION (11/11/19): The Clippers Club Board voted in favor of making the Clipper Classic a one-day USSSA sanctioned tournament.
    • DECISION (12/9/19): $621.72 has been raised to repay debts. The club will pay $300 to the city of North Liberty, and $300 to the city of Tiffin.
  12. Outstanding Action Items:
    • ACTION ITEM (10/14/19): April Schmitz will contact Naomi’s Kitchen to get additional information about fundraising opportunities. Fundraising targeted for March 2020.
    • ACTION ITEM (11/11/19): Ethan Smith will contact Don Hummer Trucking to check interest to host fundraiser.
