CLIPPERS BASEBALL CLUB BOARD MEETING

Opening: Clippers Baseball Club Board Meeting was held Monday, March 9, 2020 at Tiffin City Hall in Tiffin, IA at 6:02pm.

Board Members Present: Nick Pfeiffer (President), Jeremiah Herdliska (Vice President), Kelly Weber (Treasurer), Matt Carlson (Secretary), Sarah Seidl, Bridgette Schares, April Schmitz, Ethan Smith

Others Present: Golda Mohonan, Brandon Schrock, Trent DeKoter, Angela Jurgens, Tim Blattner, Brett Breard

  1. Open Discussion from Membership:
    • No update.
  2. Clippers Baseball Club Tax Filing:
    • Taxes have been filed for 2017 and 2018.
    • Reggie Meade will file an extension for 2019 tax filing and complete the club’s 2019 taxes in August 2020.
    • The Club will change their accounting period to align with the baseball season.
    • Kudos to Reggie Meade for all the pro bono tax preparation work he has done to support the Clippers Baseball Club.
    • This item can be removed from the April 13th agenda.
  3. Update on Outstanding Action Items:
    • April Schmitz will contact Naomi’s Kitchen to get additional information about fundraising opportunities. Fundraising targeted for March 2020 – COMPLETE
      • Naomi’s Kitchen is generously donating $20 per order to the Clipper Baseball Club. Here’s all you need to do:
        • Visit naomiskitchen.com, go to the Calendar, and select Clippers Baseball Fundraiser on March 26th. Here’s a direct link. You must place your order by Tuesday, 3/24.
        • Select the menu options that best fits your needs.
        • Pick up and pay for your order between 3-7pm on Thursday, 3/26. Cash or check accepted.
    • Ethan Smith will contact Don Hummer Trucking to check interest in club sponsorship opportunities – IN PROGRESS
      • No update.
    • Nick Pfeiffer will reach out to the Coralville Panchero’s about scheduling a fundraiser again in April 2020 (Panchero’s allows organizations to do a fundraiser every 6 months) – IN PROGRESS

  5. Fundraising:
    • Breakdown of Fundraisers:
      • Pura Vida bracelets fundraiser raised $600.
      • Tap N’ Tacos Fundraiser (Brunch for Baseball) raised $105.54.
      • Panchero’s Fundraiser:
        • Nick Pfeiffer is gathering information on offering discounted burritos the club can buy for $2-3 and sell for $5 at the Clipper Classic.
          • No update.
    • ACTION ITEM: April Schmitz will contact Cookies & More about fundraising opportunities.
    • ACTION ITEM: Kelly Weber will contact 365 Nutrition about fundraising opportunities.
  6. Club Debts:
    • DECISION: $705.54 has been raised to repay debts. The club will pay $610 to the City of Tiffin, and $100 (rounded up) to the City of North Liberty.
      • $610 owed to the City of Tiffin.
      • $1,511 owed to the City of North Liberty.
    • Other Outstanding Debts:
      • The club has a -$700 bank account balance owed from the previous administration.
      • A $500 scholarship is owed.
  7. Team Photos:
    • Team and individual photos are scheduled for Tuesday, 3/31 at the Tiffin Ballfields. Here is the club schedule:
      • 7U: 5:30pm
      • 8U: 5:50pm
      • 9U: 6:10pm
      • 10U White: 6:30pm
      • 10U Blue: 6:50pm
      • 12U: 7:10pm
    • Katie Schmelzer of KS Photography will take club photos and provide online ordering capabilities for each player.
    • Each team should budget for around $125 for team banners, this comes from team funds this year, not the club’s funds.
    • The rainout date for photos is Wednesday, 4/1 at the same times for each team.
    • Teams will be responsible for paying for their own team banners that generally run about $100-125 each.
  8. Update on Pending Legal Details:
    • No restitution has been paid. About $38K is owed.
    • The trial is currently scheduled for 4/7, but is unlikely to go to trial.
  9. Clipper Club 2021 Tryouts:
    • Club tryout dates are scheduled for Wednesday, 7/15, and Saturday, 7/25. More details to come.
  10. Treasurer’s Report:
    • 3/8 Clippers Baseball Club checking account balance: $17,835.72
    • 3/9 Roster and Dues Update:
      • Families who have not paid second payment dues:
        • 9U Team

  12. Decisions:
    • DECISION (10/14/19): The CCASD, insurance dues, and mound rental fees are the top debt priorities: $500 owed to CCASD, $793.10 owed for insurance dues, and $500 owed for mound rental fees.
    • DECISION (10/14/19): There is $479 left after CCASD, insurance dues, and mound rental fees are paid.Of the remaining funds raised $100 will go to Tiffin Parks & Rec, and $350 will go to North Liberty Parks & Rec.
    • DECISION (11/11/19): The Clippers Club Board voted in favor of making the Clipper Classic a one-day USSSA sanctioned tournament.
    • DECISION (12/9/19): $621.72 has been raised to repay debts. The club will pay $300 to the City of North Liberty, and $300 to the City of Tiffin.
    • DECISION (2/10/20): $899.23 has been raised to repay debts. The club will pay $450 to the City of North Liberty, and $450 to the City of Tiffin.
    • DECISION (3/9/20): $705.54 has been raised to repay debts. The club will pay $610 to the City of Tiffin, and $100 (rounded up) to the City of North Liberty.
